Parish news regarding the Outbreak

Dear Parishioners, we continue to carry on to the best of abilities as a community of faith and Church during the Coronavirus outbreak. Please know that all of us priests, Father Stephen, Father Beaugrand, and Father Dat, pray for you daily.

As of February 5th, the Supreme Court has issued an injunction against the State if California enforcing its prohibition against indoor worship.  Bishop Garcia has permitted all parishes to return to indoor services!  We will continue to livestream our masses and have the option of outdoor services if we are unable to stay within out 25% capacity limits.

In an effort to reduce the risk posed to our community to exposure to coming cold weather, we are temporarily cancelling all 7am and 7pm masses.  We are adding a 2:30pm Spanish mass on Sundays.  We will resume our normal schedule once we can once again offer masses inside the church.

San Benito County has just been moved back to “Purple” meaning that there are more than 7 positive tests per 100,000 people in the county.  Take heart in knowing that there have been no new deaths recorded.

Masses will be held outside for the foreseeable future.  We will have an update soon on our efforts to provide safe shelter from the oncoming winter weather.

Dear Parishioners of Sacred Heart and St. Benedict’s Catholic Church,
Happy Pentecost! I pray that this message finds you and your families well and still
filled with the joy of Easter. As we commemorate the descent of the Holy Spirit, we
celebrate and renew our mission as a Church. Since our last public Masses on Sunday
March 15, much has transpired. It was not without great sacrifice that our church
implemented the protocols of the “Stay at Home” order and closed our doors.  The trial
of this pandemic has been made all the more bitter for us by not having the solace of
the sacraments and the strength of gathering together as a community….. click here to read the entirety of the letter (Click here to read letter in Spanish)

Here’s other updates on what is going on in our parish.

  • Regular Daily and Weekend public Masses are suspended until further notice. We priests continue to celebrate Mass daily for all the Mass intentions we had already scheduled during this time.
  • Regular confession times are cancelled. If someone is in great need to go to confession, he/she may call the office and leave a voicemail.
  • Our pastoral office/center is closed until further notice. However you may still call the office and leave a voicemail for any pressing needs and we will get back to you as soon as we can.
  • If someone is dying and needs last rites, you may call our parish office and dial zero to get a hold of a priest to impart those sacraments.
  • We have started a Youtube channel where you can find regular videos by the priests on different spiritual practices and plan to also use to record Mass as well for the weekends. The Youtube channel can be found: here
  • You may also go to our parish facebook account where you can live stream Sunday Mass: 8AM English Mass and 9AM Spanish Mass. Click here to go to our Facebook account.  You may also stream our Sunday Masses on our Youtube channel here

Overall the idea is that us priests also need to limit personal contact with anyone unless is gravely necessary such as when someone is dying. This is not only for our own protection but also for the protection of our people in case we were to get infected with coronavirus.

For any other question you may call our office number (831-637-9212), otherwise we ask you to keep checking back here, or our phone number for the latest updates. May God bless you
